Co-operative education

Research co-operative  education (co-op) is a strong component of a student’s experience and offers undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students the chance to work side-by-side with leading research professors and professionals in all areas of research.  Examples include:

  • working in a campus research laboratory
  • helping a community organization
  • conducting reviews of program-related scholarship
  • working on a business or marketing plan for a local start-up

Choose  from one or more three-month or six-month co-ops, depending on your academic  program, and go on to graduate with a competitive edge  in the job market.  You can also earn a salary while on co-op, which can assist in offsetting  college expenses.

Gain experience at internships and clinicals

Put your coursework  to work for you in professional settings with paid or unpaid work experiences that  follow your academic  path.  Employers love University of Massachusetts Lowell students because  we help you fine-tune  your career path  and enhance your skill set.

Optional Practical Training

The U.S. government’s  Optional Practical Training (OPT) program offers international graduates with a degree  in a STEM discipline (science, technology,  engineering or math) the opportunity to stay and work in the U.S. for up to three years. Participating in the OPT program gives graduates a significant advantage when looking for permanent employment  in the U.S. and abroad.

Earn both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in 5 years

Bachelor’s to master’s programs  give students the opportunity to complete  two degrees  in as little as five years, saving valuable time and money. There are nearly two dozen undergraduate majors at University of Massachusetts Lowell that offer a combined  accelerated bachelor’s to master’s degree  program.
